Neuropsychology

The Neuropsychology facilities at Patanjali Research Foundation focus on yoga practices and perceptual, cognitive and motor variables using different neuropsychological equipment and psychological tools. These equipments are used in the research:
  • Auto Tally Maze (Lafayette Instrument Company, USA) to assess learning, spatial memory and problem solving behavior.
  • MOART Reaction Time (Lafayette Instrument Company, USA) to measure of how long it takes a performer to prepare and initiate an intended movement.
  • Tapping Board (Lafayette Instrument Company, USA) to evaluate psychomotor skill.
  • Finger Tapping (Lafayette Instrument Company, USA) to measure motor performance in the upper extremities.
  • Purdue Pegboard (Lafayette Instrument Company, USA) to measure motor speed, dexterity and focused attention.
  • O’Connor Finger Dexterity Tester (Anand Agencies, India) to measure coordination of small muscles in movements, usually involving the synchronization of hands and fingers with the eyes.
  • Shape & Size Discrimination Task (Takei Scientific Instruments Co. Ltd., Japan) to assess ability to discriminate between coins of different sizes depending on their visual and tactile sensations as well as their speed of sorting.
  • Muller-Lyer Illusion (Anand Agencies, India) to measure an optical illusion consisting of stylized arrows.
  • Corsi Block Task software (Seattle, USA) to test assesses visual- spatial, short term working memory.
  • California Verbal Learning Test software (North America) to measure of episodic verbal learning and memory, which demonstrates sensitivity to a range of clinical conditions.
  • Several psychological tools and questionnaires have been translated (and back translated to Hindi) for use with healthy persons and patient populations.
